South African runner and 2012 Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius, who was found guilty of culpable homicide but cleared of a murder charge, could serve just 10 months in prison -- with the rest under house arrest -- at least that's what his attorney thinks.

Steenkamp's lawyer thinks he could serve two years behind bars.

Pistorius was also given a three-year suspended sentence for a firearms charge.

He also cannot compete in paralympic events for the full five years of a sentence.
