Ramon Ortiz has been around for what feels like forever. His career started in 1999, when I was a mere nine years old. Last night, his career pretty much came to an end after he injured his elbow while throwing a pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays, bringing him to tears on the pitcher's mound.

This is positively heartbreaking. We are literally watching a man who has dedicated his entire life to his pitching career have that career ended against his will in the most painful and public way possible. I want to cry for him, just because this is so unfair to Ortiz, or anyone else who dedicates their adult life to entertaining us.

Ortiz is forty years old, and was struggling mightily this season in sporadic appearances with the Blue Jays. It would be a miracle if his professional career carried on beyond this.
