The Washington Redskins have got a little protection by drafting Iowa OL Brandon Scherff .

Standing at 6’5, 320 lbs, Scherff is a lock to be a Day 1 starter in the NFL. The 2014 recipient of the Outland Trophy for best offensive lineman, Scherff is known for his brute strength and leadership. He was named a permanent team captain, and team MVP for the Hawkeyes in 2014.

Scherff was a multi-sport athlete in high school. He was a varsity letterman in baseball, and also competed in basketball, tennis, and track. He won the state title in shot put as a sophomore.

Scherff will most likely translate into an OG at the NFL level. He succeeds with raw strength at the college level, and is an outstanding run-blocker. However, since he relies on his power, his technique doesn’t translate well in pass protection.

The 2015 NFL Draft this year was held in Chicago, Illinois. It's the first time that the event was not at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The new environment brought the majority of the first round draft picks, but not the top two, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston.
