America East Changes Tournament Format Starting In 2015

For the last three years, I've spent a very special weekend in March at the America East Basketball Championships, a multi-day marathon in which contained three straight days, four games in each day, and at least 24 hours of basketball. Now that fun is being taken away from America East fans starting in 2015, as the conference has elected to go to a high seed format.

UAlbany Women’s Basketball Defeats Hartford, Advances To NCAA Tournament

On a weekend where jubilation exists throughout the entire city of Albany, there is now a sports-related reason to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day weekend - the UAlbany Great Danes have both basketball teams advancing to their respective NCAA Tournaments. Despite their struggles with turnovers during various points of the game, the UAlbany women's basketball team overcame adversity with a 61-52 victory over Hartford at SEFCU Arena and now await to find out this Monday night where and when their next game will be.

UAlbany Upsets Vermont, Advances To NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

If you had sat down with me before the America East Basketball Tournament kicked off last weekend and told me that UAlbany would have to go through Stony Brook and Vermont to get to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, I would have said their chances were slim. The odds were stacked against them and history not on their side, but the Great Danes have closed the final chapter of their 2012-13 America East season with a championship trophy and silenced doubters.

College Basketball Conference Tournaments Are Perfect The Way They Are

This weekend, the University at Albany played host to one of the first great moments of this year's NCAA basketball conference championship week when Albany's Mike Black hit a game winning layup to upset the America East's top seeded Stony Brook Seawolves. The Great Danes advanced to Saturday's championship game, the fans stormed the court, and it was a truly amazing moment.

Now people want to make sure moments like it can no longer happen.

America East Tournament – Sunday Recap (Semifinals)

After yesterday’s excitement in the Men’s Quarterfinals of the America East Tournament, it would be an understatement to say that I was thrilled about coming back to SEFCU Arena for another slate of four games. March Madness has officially arrived for mid-major conferences throughout the week, and that includes our very own UAlbany Great Danes, who are hosting the America East Tournament throughout the weekend at SEFCU Arena. The ladies opened action on Friday with a triple-header of Quarterfinal match-ups (Maine forfeited against UAlbany due to travel concerns, hence only a triple-header), and the action continued Saturday with the four Men’s Quarterfinal games.

UAlbany Men’s Basketball Coach Will Brown Buys America East Tournament Tickets For 400 Students

UAlbany head basketball coach Will Brown has done a number of good things in the Albany community in his 12 year tenure as the head coach of the Great Danes, including work with a number of charitable organizations. He has extended that charitable spirit to this weekend's America East basketball tournament, as he has purchased 400 student tickets to Saturday's quarterfinal game against Maine.

UAlbany Baseball Seeded 4th In America East Tourney

The UAlbany baseball team will open up the America East Tournament against top-seeded Stony Brook in the first round of the double elimination tournament on Wednesday at 3:00pm.

The Great Danes are the 4th seed for the league's tourney.
