Part of the fun of participating in high school sports is when your friends can come and see you play in the games. Unfortunately, incidents and accusations involving racist behavior is prohibiting student-athlete from having their classmates at games. Several times in the past few weeks incidents involving New York based high schools were involved in such events.

Last year, high school seniors in New York State played their final basketball games in mostly empty gyms with masks covering two thirds of their friends and coaches faces. The mask part won't be much different for now but full gyms are expected and even encouraged in 2022. That is a good thing for everyone involved, even if you still can't see the smile.

Fridays are always busy on high school fields and courts, December 10th one was no exceptions. There were 38 basketball games on the Section II schedule for the boys and 32 match ups for the girls. Tuesday night, Syracuse police were called to break up a fight on the basketball court of Henninger High School. Henninger was playing Syracuse Academy of Science in basketball. When police are called to high schools, it is never a good thing. When they are called to high school basketball games to break up a fight, you scratch your head to try to understand. As in many cases, the fight on the court that resulted in a call to police, allegedly did not involve any players in the game.
