The Tamarac boys basketball team is more than pretty good. Their top ranking amongst Class B high school programs in New York State is not something that the team, nor the coaches, take lightly. Success on any level takes hard work and commitment. Bengals coach Eric Medved, joined The Drive with Charlie & Dan on Friday to discuss his team's top ranking and Tamarac's 'Big Red' day.

Coach Medved is an interesting person. Dan and I first got interview him prior to the Coaches vs Cancer high school tournament that he organized at Hudson Valley Community College last month. His passion for the tournament and the cause jumped out to me during the interview. Some coaches have certain traits that make them successful. Focused passion is a tremendous characteristic for a coach to have. Eric Medved possesses that element.

On Saturday night, the Bengals hosted a Class AA team in the Bethlehem Eagles, as the nightcap to a full day of Tamarac athletics activities on 'Big Red" day. Why would anyone schedule a Class AA team for a basketball homecoming celebration for your school? Coach Medved told us that he wants to constantly challenge his group to respond to challenges. The tougher the games are now, the more that the team will be used it in mid February, when you go home if you don't win.

Bengals' responded, as they have all year to tests that have been put before them. Coach Medved is the first to point out that this is all about his players. He points to "the glue" junior James Blake or his backcourt buddy junior Joey Poulin, who dumped 16 on their AA opponent for an impressive 72-62 victory over Bethlehem.

Medved is often pouring praise on senior standout Zach Rice. At the same time, Coach makes sure he mentions every player on his team. He knows the importance of each individual. The good coaches always do. Tamarac sits on top of the Wasaren League with a 12-1 record tied with Mechanicville. Tamarac's only loss was a close one to Albany Academy in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament. Mechanicville's only loss is to Tamarac. Best of luck to the entire Tamarac Bengals team. Coach Medved's interview with The Drive with Charlie & Dan from Friday is below.
