Congratulations to former Union College hockey star Shayne Gostisbehere on his inclusion on the list for the Calder Award (the NHLs top rookie).

Gostisbehere is going up against super-rookie Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Artemi Panarin of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Gostisbehere, a defenseman, scored 17 goals this season to go along with 29 assists for a total of 46 points.

It's hard to fathom a defenseman winning the award over McDavid -- the electric center and a future face of the league. But, McDavid actually had one less goal than Gostisbehere. He missed some time due to an injury and still registered 48 points.

Gostisbehere helped Union win the national championship in 2013-14. The Dutchmen defeated Minnesota in the national championship game after beating Boston College in the national semifinal.
