I will admit I was a little surprised when I first heard the news that Brian Fruscio would be leaving Albany Academy after 16 tremendous and successful seasons as their boys basketball head coach.  He is an excellent leader and coach as he has produced several talented basketball players throughout his tenure there.  I broke the story Thursday night and since then he has received countless congratulations from the people close to him.  I have always enjoyed our relationship and look forward to covering him on his next coaching journey.  Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:

The High School Basketball season will feel a little different next season without Brian Fruscio coaching at Albany Academy, but I respect his decision just like I respect his ability to coach and lead a program. After 16 years and six New York State Federation State titles, Fruscio is ready for his next challenge and there is nothing wrong with that. Canterbury Prep School in Milford Connecticut is rolling out the red carpet to get Fruscio, and that’s a good feeling too. While I understand his decision to make a move, we will still miss his presence in the Capital Region.

Coach Fruscio joined MJ and I earlier this morning right here on Big Board Sports.  Below is our full interview with him.

I wish Coach Fruscio nothing but the best with Canterbury as they are getting a good one indeed.  His knowledge of the game and his relationship with his players and coaching staff is what sets him apart from the rest and makes him so great.
