By answering who is the best of the worst, you are also answering who is the worst of the worst. The Buffalo Bills without question are the best football team in New York. Many will argue that they are the only football team in New York but that is a discussion for another day. The New York Giants and the New York Jets go into 2023 with major question-marks surrounding their organizations. Forget the excuses, which team will have the most wins at the end of the season?

The Jets are in year two of the Robert Saleh tenure and year three of general manager Joe Douglas. Gang Green won 4 games last season and this year's roster most definitely stronger than 2021. Second year quarterback Zach Wilson appears destined to miss at least the first game of the season. Saleh and Douglas need Wilson to take a step forward in his maturity process, if he is going to become the franchise QB. Don't hold your breath. Dynamic draft picks wide-receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall have complimented Wilson's arsenal this pre-season. What he does with his improved offense is completely up in the air.

The Jets should be better than the very worst team in the NFL on defense, like they were in 2021. Robert Saleh is trying to replicate what he had in San Francisco. He still has a long way to go. However, first-round draft-picks, cornerback Sauce Gardner and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson should boost a defense that, when healthy, looks decent on paper. Edge rusher Carl Lawson and linebacker CJ Mosley missed last season with injuries. They are back. 5th year nose tackle Quinnen Williams should have a big year, if he can get some help from some healthy talent. Long and short, the AFC is stacked. The Jets have a tough schedule. However, I see some improvement on the way and the Jets as a 6 or 7 win team in 2022.

On the Blue side of MetLife Stadium resides the other worst New York football team. Rookie general manager, Joe Schoen and rookie head coach Brian Daboll would have been preparing for the Super Bowl LVII, if they had kept their previous jobs in Buffalo. Instead, they chose the task of finding out if Daniel Jones is an NFL quarterback; if Saquon Barkley has anything left in the tank and if Kenny Golladay is robbing Big Blue of every penny former GM Dave Gettleman signed him for prior to last season.

With an improved offensive line, centered by former Buffalo Bills free-agent, Jon Feliciano, Daniel Jones should finally have the time he needs to operate the Big Blue offense. A healthy Saquon Barkley should keep defenses honest, which should improve the Giants passing game. Kadarius Toney, Kenny Golladay and Sterling Shepard are a pretty decent receiving corp. I see great possibilities for the offense this season. It all hinges on can Daniel Jones operate his 3rd new offense in 4 seasons? If he can, it may be a pretty good season for the Giants.

New defensive coordinator, Wink Martindale, inherited the best part of the Giants' roster. Big Blue's defense ranked 23rd in points allowed last season. Many of those points came as a result of an inept offense. There is some talent on the defensive side of the ball for the Giants. Defensive end Leonard Williams will be joined by first round draft-pick, edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeau. With linebacker Blake Martinez and safety Xavier McKinney returning from injuries in 2021, I see the Giants defense improving significantly. They are still thin at cornerback but the expected front-line pressure should help the defensive backs. I think the Giants will take a step forward in Brian Daboll's first season as head coach. In a weak NFC East division, Big Blue can win 7 or 8 games this season.

In all honesty, which MetLife Stadium resident is better is truly a coin flip. It appears both teams are heading in better directions but only regular season football games will determine their fate. The Giants may actually have the edge over the Jets because they are not locked into a quarterback's success, as the Jets are right now. If Giants QB Daniel Jones is a bust this year, no big deal; the Giants pull him; put in Tyrod Taylor and move on for this season. Jones is a product of the previous regime and his future is of no consequence to Schoen and Daboll. If Jets QB Zach Wilson is a bust, Robert Saleh is going to be more hesitant to move on from him because Saleh and Douglas chose Wilson. That should scare Jets fans. All reports are that Wilson has been better this camp but is far from a quality quarterback, yet. The Giants are a better team right now and therefore, Gang Green is still the worst NFL team in New York.
