Yao Ming Calls it Quits
Yao Ming is 30 and officially done with the NBA after 2 injury riddled seasons.
The Former number 1 pick of the Houston Rockets and trail Blazers has announced that last season was his last. The big man averaged more then 20 points a game in his 8 NBA seasons, but the punishment on his body of a NBA schedule has proven to be to much. Frequent injuries to his foot have pushed him out of the last 2 seasons.
As goes the career of an NBA big man, short and sweet. Once the darling of 2 countries his native China and here in America people loved watching him play. Played the press perfectly and was an animal on the court, it is sad day to realize that he will no longer be suiting up for the rockets.
Yao is going to make more time for his native country China and his young daughter. I for one was a Yao fan from his Visa commercial with Yogi Berra to his aggressive style on the court, and even seeing him carry the flag for China in the 2008 Olympics made me smile. The NBA has lost 2 of their premier big men in the last month between Shaq and Yao. Now I’m interested to see who will step up and be the next all time great.
