Will the Bills Trade for The Best Defensive Player in the NFL?
The Buffalo Bills are heading into the last event of the 2023 off-season, which will take place in less than two weeks.
Mandatory minicamp will open in mid-June and take place for three days. All players are required to be there, unlike OTA's, which are voluntary.
The Bills made a signing official on Thursday, agreeing to terms with offensive tackle Brandon Shell on a one-year deal. The Bills also released defensive tackle Brandin Bryant. Could the Bills still make a huge move?
Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is looking for a new team and many Bills fans want general manager Brandon Beane to sign the all-pro.
The money would need to work out and realistically, Hopkins would have to make monetary compromises if he wants to sign with the Bills or Chiefs.
Beane could also make a trade and there's one player who would make the Bills defense scary for opposing offenses.
Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated listed players who could be traded before the regular season begins and the most notable is Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle, Aaron Donald.
The 32-year-old all-pro is regarded as one of the best players in the NFL, maybe the best period. He's a future Hall of Famer and would make any team a contender if they aren't already.
Verderame makes a strong argument that Rams GM Les Snead should trade Donald, since the Rams desperately need draft capital and need to get younger. Donald contemplated retirement last year and is at the end of his career. He's still playing at a very high level.
The only way the Bills could make it work is to trade a player off the roster, which would very well be defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who has one year remaining on his contract at nearly $11 million.
Donald's cap hit would only be $3 million more if the Bills made that move, for this season. After that things would have to be worked out.
The Bills or any team would also need to trade the Rams a high draft pick, in all likelihood.
The chances of Donald not being traded are better than will be traded but it makes a lot of sense for Donald, the Rams and a team like the Bills to make this kind of trade.
