A season long 6 game road trip is not starting out well for the Albany Devils. 1st a loss in Providence followed by a defeat in Portland, Maine. A shutout loss in fact losing to the Pirates 2-0.

The Pirates lead the Atlantic division. the Devils are scuffling to get into a playoff spot. Both goaltenders played well. Jeff Frazee returned to the net after Keith Kinkaid suffered  a loss the night before in Providence. Frazee stopped 27 shots. His counter part in goal for the Pirates was flawless. Mark Visentin stopped all 22 shots in registering his 2nd shutout of the season.

Both teams went 0-3 with the power play. Portland's 2 goals came from Chris Conner who scored in the 2nd period and then the capper, a 3rd period tally Ethan Werek. Werek's goal came with just over 12 minutes left but the Devils were unable to rally.

Making the offensive troubles more daunting for Albany moving forward, the parent club the New Jersey Devils called up Bobby Butler, the forward who was the lone all star selection for Albany.

The Devs continue their road trip Tuesday night when they play at Connecticut in a contest against the Rangers top affiliate the Whale. Ironically the Rangers and Devils go at each other for the 1st time since last year's playoff win by the Devils.
