Another Major Change is Coming for an Upstate New York State University
It was roughly two months ago that we learned of two members of the State University of New York system who were going through major changes. On the heels of the SUNY Oswego name change, and the State University of New York at New Paltz gaining recognition as an official university, we have another change coming to a SUNY member school.
This time around, it's a school in the Capital Region that's set to undergo a change.

Saratoga Springs' SUNY Empire College Set for Name Change in 2023
A story from ABC News 10 shared news that SUNY Empire College, based in Saratoga Springs, is set for a name change in 2023. The institution is now officially named Empire State University.
As noted by News 10, Empire State University is the state’s only public online institution, as it offers at least three graduate programs. It was designed by SUNY Chancellor Ernest Boyer in 1971, who wanted to create an institution that provided educational opportunities for adults, with flexible class schedules and times.
It was a novel idea within higher education, and still is to this day. Students have the ability to define their academic needs, and the institution provides them with the resources and guidance to achieve their goals on their individual schedule.
As mentioned above, the changes comes on the heels of two other changes within the SUNY system. The name of the “State University of New York College at Oswego” became the “State University of New York at Oswego" on January 1, 2023. Also, the State University of New York at New Paltz was also officially recognized as a university on that same day.
More changes are sure to come in the near future, so as always, stay tuned, and stay in school!
