Basketball Legend Bob Knight Has Died at Age 83

The legendary college basketball coach passed away on Wednesday.

The sports world has lost another great. The winningest coach in Division 1 men's college basketball, Bob Knight, has passed away at the age of 83, ESPN reports. This was confirmed by his family.

Here is the statement from Knight's family:

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.

Known for his success on the court as well as his outbursts on the same court, Knight's undefeated season has yet to be beat.

He coached at Indiana from 1971-2000 where he won 3 men's titles. He spent the later years of his coaching career at Texas Tech from 2001-2008. After that he worked as an analyst for ESPN.

His impact was felt off the court, too, as he was a profound supporter of student-athletes receiving a quality education, which was evident by his teams annually producing a near-perfect graduation rate. Coach Knight's impact on our basketball program will forever be cherished as one of the greatest tenures in our history.
