On January 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin's life changed forever.

During the first quarter of his team's game against Cincinnati, Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle, and as we later found out, went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital in Cincinnati, and days later, miraculously re-gained consciousness and began his recovery.

106 days later, Hamlin received another medical update that's nothing short of miraculous.

Buffalo Bills' GM Brandon Beane Offers Dream Update on Damar Hamlin

A story from ESPN shared an update from Buffalo Bills' GM Brandon Beane that, at one point in time, most football fans would have never expected to hear: Damar Hamlin has been cleared to play football again.

No, really, it's true. Check out these comments from Beane on Hamlin's return:

Per the report, Hamlin saw a specialist last Friday, who ultimately gave Hamlin their blessing to return to the football field. He has been participating in Buffalo's voluntary workouts this week.

Every doctor and specialist who had been working with Hamlin during his recovery all unanimously agreed that he was ready to return, according to Beane.

On Hamlin's return, Bills' coach Sean McDermott said the following:

"He's moving forward one step at a time here. He's been cleared from a physical standpoint, and we'll provide all the mental help we can from a mind, body and spirit standpoint." - Sean McDermott

Meanwhile, Bills' QB Josh Allen had this to say about his teammate's return:

"I haven't been able to give him a big ol' hug yet, but it's been good to see him in the building. Right when this thing happened, that was his mindset from the very start; I'm going to play again. Never going to doubt a guy like that, who has had a lot of adversity in his life and has continued to find ways. This has just been another obstacle that he has been able to get around." - Josh Allen

I'm a firm believer in the notion that good things happen to good people, and Damar Hamlin is exactly that. Facing what seemed like insurmountable adversity, Hamlin never let his situation keep him from continuing to give back to his community.

He has worked tirelessly to raise money for his charitable initiatives, and has also worked to raise awareness for athletes who may suffer from heart conditions similar to his, so that they can be treated to avoid facing a similar life-threatening episode. He continues to advocate for AEDs to be present on every school campus, as well.

There's still a long road ahead for Damar Hamlin to be ready for game action. That said, he's made it past every other hurdle so far, so we're hoping for that trend to continue this summer.
