When I was a kid I remember riding with my mom and dad to the dump to drop off our garbage. As the years passed and our town became more environmentally aware, we drove our recyclable material to the dump as well. Today it's much easier as we just toss out unwanted stuff into the proper bin and let waste collection take it away.

Did you know that there is a good chance that you have been tossing things in your recycle bin that are not allowed? What about magazines, pizza boxes and napkins? Towns and counties around the Capital Region have individual policies but take a look at the list below of things that are unacceptable to toss in the recycling bin.

According to Recycle Right New York, certain items are perfectly fine to recycle in New York State while others are not. For example, did you know that you can recycle paint? You can't toss it in the recycle bin but you don't have to leave it stored in your basement for years either. Check this out.
