This week on 104.5 the Team we are starting up the #CapitalRegionGreatestSportsMomentBracket as we are trying to crown the best sports moment in the history of the Capital Region as decided by you! And today continues the Quarterfinal Stage in our bracket! Today we head over to the other side of the bracket where another college hockey championship faces a Gold Medalist!

(4) RPI Men's Hockey Team Wins 1984-85 College Hockey Title

The Engineers had a dominating season in 1984-85 going 35-2-1 earning a 1 seed in the NCAA Men's Hockey tournament. They won a thriller overtime game in the semi-finals against Minnesota-Duluth before taking down Providence in the champions game 2-1. It was an amazing moment for the program!

(8) Niskayuna Native Jeff Blatnick Wins Gold Medal in 1984 Olympics

Blatnick won national championships in the late 70's in NCAA Division 2 and qualified for the 1980 Olympics but the USA boycotted them so he was unable to compete in them. He got his chance in 1984 and boy did he deliver. He won the Gold in Olmympic Greco-Roman +100 kg becoming the first American to win Gold in that event along with Steve Fraser that year. To make this even more dramatic, Blatnick had beaten Hodgkins's lymphoma 2 years prior! Watch the Final matchup below:
