Upstate NY football team set to compete for championship
While college football and the NFL season are still a couple months away, there is still football being played around the Capital Region. The Albany Firebirds are set to begin their playoff journey in just a couple weeks as they attempt to go back to back in the Arena Football 1 league as champions. But before that unfolds, another upstate football team is preparing for their own championship.
The American Women's Football League is holding their championship Saturday July 25th in San Antonio Texas. The New York Knockout played all their home games this season at Lansingburgh high school where they went 3-0. They then went on to win their wildcard round game against the River City Sting by a score of 49-0. In their second round matchup with the Upstate Lady Predators the Knockout won 46-20. After winning their conference championship against the Columbus Mystic and coach of the year Frank Rhodes, they now have a date with destiny in the championship game.
The American Women's Football League was created to be a competitive atmosphere for women above 18 who wanted to play football. Now our very own Albany based team is ready to show what they can do on the biggest stage. The Knockout will face off against the Southwest Conference champion the Carolina Stars. The game will be streamed live and for free on Only On Clutch.
