Throughout the years, Ticonderoga has become a Star Trek paradise of sorts for legions of "Trekkies" throughout the Capital Region and beyond.  It all started over 25 years ago when James Cawley and his grandfather decided to "rebuild" some of the incredible Star Trek sets for super fans to enjoy.

Cawley, the creator of Star Trek: Original Series Set Tour enjoyed the recent success of their latest convention that took place last weekend in Ticonderoga.   The weekend event  celebrated multiple milestones;  55 years of Star Trek glory and marked the 90th birthday for Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner.

The weekend also provided one young couple in love the chance to live long and prosper, together, as Robert McCarthy got down on one knee in front of his girlfriend Jessica Hendel and boldly went where no man had gone before.

We reached out to coordinators of the tour and they proudly explained that Mr. Shatner got right into Captain Kirk mode when approached about being there for the momentous occasion.

Marybeth Ritkouski the event manager told us,

"I know they are both lifelong fans of the series.  Rob emailed us ahead of time and we promised to try to see what we could do for him."
Ritkouski says that while they made no guarantees to Rob, she felt pretty good about Shatner obliging considering how epic the moment would be.
"They purchased a tour with Mr. Shatner, she told us  "and it was when they got to the Bridge that Rob was given the order to "get down in one knee" by the Captain. She had no idea he was going to propose and was shocked, but thrilled."
