Colin Kaepernick was benched yesterday by the San Francisco 49ers right ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

At this point of the year, most teams know what they are doing when it comes to the quarterback position. However, the New York Jets are not one of those teams. After suffering an injury to starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and getting a lackluster performance from an also injured Geno Smith, the Jets aren't sure what will happen next week - or for the rest of the season.

So what can they do? Could they start rookie Bryce Petty and feed him to the wolves? Probably not the best recipe for success for anyone. The Jets are 4-3 and in the playoff hunt and can't afford to stunt the team and Petty's growth.

What else?

If you read the article, the idea isn't as hard to pull off as you may think. Kaepernick has a huge contract - but only $5.5 million is guaranteed this year. And then nothing else is guaranteed.

The Jets could make this work if they wanted, but has Kaepernick fallen so far that he's not even desirable?
