ESPN 104.5 Athlete of the Week
After Briana Matazinsky of Tamarac was named our inaugural “ESPN 104.5 Athlete of the Week” last Friday, we are ready to announce our winner for week two.
And it is… Bilal Matin, senior baseball player from Waterford High School!
Matin, a senior shortstop for the Fordians, was hitting .617 at the time of his nomination. He added three homers and a staggering 50 RBIs, while getting on-base at a .670 clip.
His 50 RBIs were just ten off the single-season New York State record at the time of his nomination.
Get to Know Bilal Matin
School: Waterford
Sport: Baseball
Favorite Movie: The Sandlot
Favorite Musical Artist: Two Door Cinema Club
Favorite Baseball Memory: This season, when I hit the first two home runs of my life. In the 6th inning, I hit a grand slam. I’ll definitely remember that for a long time.
Hobbies Outside of Baseball: Soccer
Bilal on Waterford’s Program: My favorite part of being in the program for four years was being able to play with my closest friends -- and being able to see everyone grow from the players we were four years ago to the players we are today.
Bilal on Individual Success: We practiced as a team a lot. We started with 6 a.m. open gym batting practices in October, so being able to start a few months in advance helped a lot. I also knew that I'd be a leader on the team, so I had to be at my best every single day.
Bilal on College Plans: Bilal will be attending the College at Brockport and hopes to walk on to the Golden Eagles baseball team.
Congratulations, Bilal Matin, our "ESPN 104.5 Athlete of the Week!"
