Former Daytona 500 Champion to Honor Sandy Hook Victims
NASCAR, Sprint Cup Driver Michael Waltrip, and Swan Racing plan to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy during this year's Daytona 500 on Feb 24th .
This cause is very important to NASCAR CEO Brian France who personally families that were affected by the horrible events of this past December in Newton, CT. Both France and Waltrip visited the small Connecticut town this past week to inform the town's leaders of the idea to change the car.
Waltrip is also the owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, which will run three cars in qualification for the biggest race of the NASCAR season. Both MWR and Waltrip's car will feature a donation text line that will read "Text NEWTOWN to 80888" so people can contribute money during the race.
