On Saturday afternoon, Joseph Girard III stepped into the Carrier Dome, his soon-to-be home for basketball, with a chance to win a second high school football state championship in the last three years. On hand to watch his recruit was Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, who shared a quick hug and word with Girard after the game.

Glens Falls won a third straight sectional title this season and the Indians are the only team from Section II to reach Syracuse in 2018. No surprise, once they got there and kicked off at noon on Saturday, Girard did a lot of bit of everything. 314 passing yards, two touchdowns through the air and two more on the ground for the senior in what ended as a 55-32 win over Batavia. Oh, and he also intercepted a pass on defense.

Girard will be remembered as one of the greatest athletes to ever come through the Capital Region. He's a Division I talent in both basketball and football and someone who has raised the level of play by his teams as a whole.
