I love football. I am old enough to remember going to Detroit Lions games at the Pontiac Silverdome when I was a kid. Tickets were 15 dollars, it was 5 dollars to park and even back then it seemed expensive. Little did I know that we had it made back then because almost anyone could afford to go to an NFL game. If you didn't have a job you could find enough returnable bottles to collect enough cash to go to a Lions game.

There was a time when I was a kid when my dad and I went to the Lions Thanksgiving Day game year after year and sometimes an extra game in the same season as well. We have gone to Ford Field once since they have been playing there and the cost of tickets was more than all the tickets my dad had ever bought in all the years seeing the team.

The average cost of NFL tickets in 2023 was $377 per ticket. With the Lion's previous history of losing, the 2023 average cost of tickets was $95.87 which isn't so bad when looking at the league average but still a lot when most people buy at least 2 tickets.

Big Difference in Detroit Lions Playoff Ticket Prices From 1992 to 2024

As you can see in the picture above the Detroit Lions playoff ticket in 1992 was $28.50 with a $1.50 service fee for a grand total of $30. That is unbelievable compared to the price of playoff tickets for 2024.

I looked to see if I could afford a couple of tickets to the Lions vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers playoff game and couldn't believe what I saw.  The cheapest ticket I could find was $515 in the top corner of Ford Field. I attempted to buy a pair of those and they sold before I could get the service fees. So based on the next cheapest ticket which was $560 with a service fee of $95.20 and a processing fee of $2.95 for a total of $658.15 to sit in the upper deck. I am so glad the game will be on TV because that is too rich for me.

If $658.15 was the cheapest seat I could find, your mind may be blown at the most expensive ticket I could find which started at $8,888 with a $1,510.96 service fee with a processing fee of $2.95 for a gut-wrenching $10,401.91. This isn't even the Super Bowl. I can't believe anyone would pay that kind of money but because some idiot will that is why we have these ridiculous ticket prices for a Lions game.
