If you're from Upstate New York you can see the names of some of our cities, towns, even counties and know exactly how to pronounce them without an issue. However when you're not from here it can prove to be a bit difficult to figure out exactly how to say these complicated names.

Instagram user carlycore.xo posted a hilarious video of her husband attempting to say the names of several places around Upstate, Central, and Western New York. I would argue that Western new York has the hardest to pronounce names of all of our regions, but each place has their fair share of difficult to pronounce places.

Video goes viral

Here are some of the cities that he attempted to pronounce:

  • Keuka
  • Conesus
  • Skaneateles
  • Schenectady
  • Binghamton
  • Poughkeepsie

This was absolutely hilarious to watch, as it always is hilarious to me when people can't say these names. I am fully aware that if I went to another state where things were spelled far different than what they are actually pronounced as I would struggle just as much as him.

There is one thing that I always struggled with locally to the Capital Region that I still truly don't know if I am pronouncing correctly. That would be the Onesquethaw Creek in Albany County. If someone from out of town could look at that and say it right the first time the NYS Lotto should just make them an automatic winner.
