Where Is The Most Enchanted City At Christmas Time? It’s In Upstate New York!
Hundreds of towns and cities across the United States go all out for Christmas every year. Some places put up impressive light displays, while others set up festive holiday markets. But there's one small town in our backyard that does Christmas better than anywhere else in the country: Lake Placid.
Why is Main Street in Lake Placid the Most Enchanting Christmas Street in the Country? For starters, the entire town gets into the holiday spirit. All of the businesses on Main Street are decorated with wreaths, lights, and Christmas trees. The streets have festive banners, and even the fire hydrants are decked out in holiday garb. So it's impossible not to get into the spirit of things when you're strolling Main Street.
But what sets Main Street apart from other Christmas-themed streets is the number of activities and events that take place there. There are horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers, a holiday market, and much more. There's something for everyone on Main Street in Lake Placid during Christmastime.
One of the coolest (pun intended) things to do in Lake Placid during the holidays is skating outdoors at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. The speed skating rink was used during the 1980 Winter Olympics, and today it's open to the public for both ice skating and speed skating competitions. So while you're there, be sure to grab a cup of hot cocoa from one of the nearby cafes.
Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Lake Placid kicks off its Christmas Town celebration with a tree lighting ceremony and parade down Main Street.
