Albany County Village Getting Tavern & Cafe to Raise $ For School Programs

Buisness For Good has a project underway that will build a tavern and a cafe in the heart of an Albany County Village. These two businesses will in turn raise money for the local school sports and other programs.

What is Buisness For Good?

Business For Good is a non-profit organization that builds projects in local communities to give back. According to the Business For Good Facebook page,

Giving back to move forward. We invest in people to build better businesses, stronger communities, and a more equitable world. We’re working to get there through sustained investment in people and the transformative power of entrepreneurship.

Where Is This Project Being Built?

They are building this project in the Village of Voorheesville. Ed Mitzen, who is the co-founder of Buisness For Good is from Voorheesville.  He thought the opportunity to make an empty Stewart's Shop on South Main Street and an old doctor's office right across the street would benefit his hometown.

What is Being Built in These Spaces?

There will be two new restaurants on Main Street in the Village of Voorheesville. There will be the Blackbirds Tavern and the Blackbirds Bike Cafe.

What Will Blackbirds Tavern Look Like?

Blackbirds Tavern will be a five thousand square feet restaurant with fireplaces, a full bar with seating, dining areas, outdoor patio seating, and a full kitchen according to bonacio.com.

What Will Blackbirds Bike Cafe Be Like?

Blackbirds Bike Cafe will be a two story mixed use building with a thirty-two hundred square foot cafe that features seating and a full kitchen. There will be two residential aparntments on the second foor above the cafe.

Why the Name 'Blackbirds"?

Both restaurants are named after the Voorheesville Central Schools' mascot, the Blackbirds. Buisness For Good said,

All profits from both businesses will be donated directly to school and youth sports programs that benefit Voorheesville and nearby towns.

Each eatery will be different. The cafe will serve a light fare with bicycles available for sale. The plan is to open both Blackbirds Tavern and Blackbirds Bike Cafe in the fall.
