The Malta Drive-In will open tonight (Friday, April 26th) for its seventy-fifth season. It was built by Sarto and Leona Smaldone in July 1949. The first movies shown were "On The Old Spanish Trail" starring Roy Rogers and "The Noose Hangs High" with Abbott and Costello.

This weekend and seventy-five seasons later, the Malta Drive-In will show a double feature. The movies are “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and “Ghostbusters Frozen Empire” on the front screen and shown on the back screen is  “Abigail” and “Monkey Man”.

There will be promotions this season including "Throwback Thursdays". Throughout July and August, Malta Drive-In will show older nostalgic movies. The box office opens at 6:30 and the movies will start at 8 pm.

These Are The 22 Drive-In Theaters Left In NY State

New York State has the highest number of drive-in movie theater screens in the entire country. That means there's probably one not too far from wherever you are. There are a handful here in the Capital Region. 
Back in the swinging '60s, drive-in theaters were all the rage, with over 4,000 scattered across the country and a whopping one hundred fifty right here in New York State alone.
