We're finally in my favorite time of the year: The holiday season. There's something so magical about the world this time of year. Everyone is full of joy, and ready to spread the holiday cheer whatever way they can.

Here at Townsquare Media, we've been taking part in plenty of holiday parades, where we get to deck out the station vehicles in lights and garland and spread a little joy. However, we can't just drive around like that all the time.

Is it Legal to Decorate Your Car for the Holidays?

Unfortunately for all you Christmas fanatics, you can't just drive around in a mobile Christmas tree all day long. While it's not strictly illegal to decorate your car for the holidays, there are some rules you have to follow.

Most importantly, it is highly illegal in New York State to but Christmas lights on your vehicle. Lights on your car must serve a specific purpose, such as amber or white lights for your front headlights and red for your rear. You want to throw up flashing Christmas lights? Forget it. Breaking any of these rules is likely to land you with a ticket and hefty fine for causing distractions on the road.

How Can I Decorate My Car for the Holidays??

I know, I sound like I'm killing your spark, but I promise there's ways to deck out your car for the season without angering every state patrol car in a 100 mile radius. Almost every other decoration is permitted, as long as you're not obscuring your vision or anyone else on the road.

Reindeer antlers, garland, tinsel, and other festive decorations aren't just legal, they're encouraged! Make sure to keep your headlights and license plate unobscured, and go nuts showing your holiday spirit!

Take a look at this amazing holiday tradition. This is the Greenwich Holiday Lighted Tractor Parade. It started in 2013 for locals to decorate their tractors and parade through town displaying the spirit of the holidays.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Rolls Through The Capital Region For a Great Cause

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.
