Troy Officially Opens Their New Aquatic Center Amidst Heat Wave

It's been a hot one lately, hasn't it? The heat wave of the century is upon us, and everyone in New York is looking for ways to cool off.

It's weeks like there where I wish I was still living in Miami, just a short walk away from South Beach, but Troy has found a way to make the heat more bearable...

Knickerbacker Aquatic Center

On July 2nd, 2026, Troy officially opened The Knickerbacker Aquatic Center. This may sound familiar, because it technically already existed. It replaced the Knickerbacker Pool, which was closed in 2016. In the summer of 2025, construction began on its replacement, and one year and one day later, the center had its grand opening.

The center was a collaboration between the City of Troy and the NY SWIMS grant program, which provided $5.8 Million to make that dream a reality. This is part of a $260 Million renovation across the state of New York.

What is at the Pool?

This is more than just a community pool, hence the "Aquatic Center" nickname. It doesn't just have an Olympic-sized swimming pool with eight lanes, it also has splash pads, a pool house, lounging area and accessibility features to make your stay easy.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area will be the staff, providing lifeguard services, cleaning, and more to keep the facility running like a well-oiled machine. The center will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day and admission will be free and open to the public. This is massive for the Capital Region, and will give a great way to cool down during the current heatwave.
