’86 NY Mets Legend Bringing BBQ Restaurant to Downtown Albany
My dad was a huge Mets fan, and I remember sitting with him watching games and cheering on the Mets in the '80s, especially Mookie (Moookie) Wilson. So this news brings back some great memories and also makes me very hungry.
Mets legend Mookie Wilson and his family are bringing a taste of South Carolina to downtown Albany. Their restaurant, Legacy BBQ, will take over and revive The War Room at 42 Eagle Street.
Who Is Mookie Wilson?
Mookie will always be remembered by Mets fans for his role on the unforgettable 1986 World Series championship team. Now he is sharing another important part of his life with the Capital Region: his family’s food.
Legacy BBQ is built around recipes passed down from Mookie’s mother and mother-in-law. For the Wilson family, cooking has always been something they have done together. Mookie learned those family recipes while growing up, and now he is bringing them to downtown Albany.
What Can We Expect?
The menu will feature authentic, slow-cooked South Carolina barbecue, including smoked brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken wings, and smoked sausage. Of course, you cannot have great barbecue without the sides and desserts. Guests can also look forward to baked beans, potato salad, banana pudding and pineapple cake.
Mookie says the restaurant is truly about family legacy. His mother taught the family how to cook, his father loved baseball, and his wife, daughter, brothers, and sisters have all played a part in keeping these traditions alive.
This sounds like a fun new chapter for The War Room and a special addition to Albany. Mets fans can celebrate a baseball legend while enjoying recipes that mean something to his entire family.
