Popular Retailer Moving Out of Crossgates Mall

There is a popular retail store that will be vacating Crossgates Mall soon. But the store isn't closing forever, it's moving to a nearby plaza.

In early April it was reported that a fourth Burlington store was coming to the Capital Region. We now know that the story is only half true. Yes, Burlington is moving into Northway Shopping Center in Colonie but at the expense of Burlington closing its doors inside Crossgates Mall.

When Will Burlington Open In The Northway Shopping Center?

According to the Albany Business Review, the grand opening of Burlington at 1440 Central Ave inside the Northway Shopping Center is planned for Friday, May 3rd.

The Burlington inside Crossgates Mall is permanently closed.

The Crossgates Mall Burlington store was just three miles from the new store that is going into the Northway Shopping Center. Many speculated that this new location would replace the Crossgates store because the company filed for a tenancy change with the Town of Colonie.

Burlington put a bid in for Buy Buy Baby in the Northway Shopping Plaza when it was in a bankruptcy auction. Burlington, as a company, isn't done acquiring empty stores. While other big discount stores are struggling, Burlington is planning to open one hundred forty new stores in 2024. They opened eighty new locations in 2023.

Burlington has locations at The Shoppes at Latham Circle, and in Mohawk Commons in Niskayuna.

There is no word yet if another retail store will replace the Burlington inside Crossgates Mall.
