Last year the Albany Patroons won their first championship in over 30 years when they defeated the Yakima Sunkings 124-114 at the Washington Avenue Armory. Second year head coach Derrick Rowland certainly had his hands full trying to balance the X's and O's wile dealing with the rigors that accompanies being in the front office of any minor league franchise.

The team had their fair share of ups and downs, but when the clock ran out on the season, it was the Patroons hoisting The Basketball League Championship trophy. I had a chance to catch up with Rowland along with player Jerel Scott and peel back the curtain on last season and what it was like to be a part of the historical franchise.

We touched on an array of topics including new ownership, playing at the Washington Avenue Armory, putting together a roster and the Patroons community outreach. Rowland and Scott were very adamant about the longevity of the Patroons and why they are here to stay.
