The Tampa Bay Lightning came ready to play. The New York Islanders let them. It was a blow out from the start as the Bolts Captain Steven Stamkos scored his first goal of the series just :45 seconds into the game. Tampa Bay stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. The Islanders had their chances to make it 3-1 but Andrei Vasileskiy was his amazing self and stifled any of New York’s attempts.

Stamkos scored his second goal of the game nearly 6 minutes into the second period and that was it for the Islanders. They completely gave up. Fights started. The Islanders best player, Mathew Barzal made a dumb play and crosschecked Jan Rutta in the throat at the end of the second period. He received a major penalty and a game misconduct penalty. He could be suspended for Game 6 at the Nassau Coliseum. He let his emotions get the best of him and he cost his team 2 more goals and if he is suspended, maybe the series, just to let out his frustrations.

The third period became a fight fest as the Islanders fell behind 8-0. Tampa Bay took full advantage to bait New York and they took it. Barry Trotz’s team will have a tall order to win the next two games but they can. It’s do or die. It all starts at 8pm on Wednesday from the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. If the Islanders win, it will be Game 7 in Tampa. If New York loses, it will be the final regular season game in the “old Barn,” the Nassau Coliseum. Islander faithful are all hoping for just a few more.
