Mark Lyons, Xavier Fall to Marquette
Schenectady native Mark Lyons struggled, and so did his Xavier teammates - as the Musketeers lost to Marquette on Friday night, 66-55.
Lyons finished the game with 6 points and 2 assists with no rebounds on 3 of 9 shooting. He was in foul trouble for much of the night and wasn't much of a factor after picking up his 3rd foul with 7:51 left in the 1st half.
Xavier and Michigan State both came into the NCAA Tournament as the only team's in the nation to appear in 3 straight Sweet Sixteens but that streak comes to an end this year for both teams (the Spartans lost to UCLA on Thursday night).
The sixth-seeded Musketeers finish the year with a 24-8 record.
For the season, Lyons averaged 13.8 points per game. He shot 41% from the field and 34.1% beyond the three point arc. He also averaged 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Lyons scored a season-high 25 points twice during the season. Once against Wofford and the other against Charlotte. Lyons also finished with over 20 points on two other occasions.
