Meet Sam, the Inspirational New York Giants’ Draft Night Superfan
With the fifth pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants took center-stage.
This was about to be a massive draft pick for the franchise. New general manager, Joe Schoen, and new head coach, Brian Daboll, would have their first offseason defined by the decisions made for Pick No. 5 and Pick No. 7 of the draft. With a good pick, the Giants could start their new era on a positive note.
With a bad pick, Giants fans would begin to sour on the new leadership group, almost immediately.
So, as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell strode to the podium, New York Giants' fans waited, quietly, to meet their new draft pick. Goodell was not alone on the stage, however, as a younger figure joined him. He was wearing a suit, and as Goodell began to speak, he began to cheer. Loudly.
The teenager in question is Sam Prince. Come to find out, that Sam Prince was actually the star of the show.
Meet Sam Prince, a New Jersey Native, a Giants' Superfan, and a Survivor
Sam Prince is 19-years old, from North Caldwell, New Jersey. He grew up with the New York Giants' teams that won two Super Bowls in a half decade, rooting for players like Manning, Cruz, Beckham and more.
Life isn't always easy for Sam Prince, though.
According to a story from CBS New York, Prince was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome 11 years ago, and was told that he would need a heart transplant in order to survive. He had the procedure, and was able to pull through, but to this day, is only able to breathe using one lung.
In reading draft recaps, pundits across the NFL are praising the many good decisions made by Joe Schoen and company during this year's draft. There's no doubt that the Giants had a few great moments during the course of the three-day event.
No moment, though, was better than this.
