Malky Cabrera, the outfielder for the San Francisco Giants, was suspended today (8/15) by Major League Baseball for doping after he tested positive for testosterone. Cabrera is suspended, effective immediately, without pay for 50 games.

Cabrera said, via a statement released by the MLB:

“My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”

The San Francisco Giants released a statement as well stating they were 'extremely disappointed'

This is his first year playing for the Giants. Cabrera is in his first season with the Giants. Previously he has played for the Kansas City Royals, the Atlanta Braves , and the New York Yankees for five seasons.
