Mets Entire Opening Series Postponed Due To COVID-19 Outbreak
Opening Weekend for Major League Baseball is supposed to be the end of a long Winter and what sometimes feels like a lifetime without seeing your favorite team play. That wait has just been made EVEN longer for New York Mets fans. The Mets season opener on Thursday was already postponed, but now you can now add Saturday and Sunday to the list of postponed games. The Mets new 2021 MLB season opener will be Monday April 5th at 7:05 pm in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
The wait of Mets fans to see this new team with Francisco Lindor begin what looks to be a playoff bound season being extended another four days is tough. The good news is the issue is not with the Mets. Obviously I'm not rooting for anyone to have COVID-19 but as long as the Mets continue to test negative they will be able to play on Monday in Philly.
The NY Post reported:
The league announced the postponement “due to continued follow-up testing and contact tracing involving members of the Nationals organization.” As of Thursday, three Nationals players had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with a fourth “likely” positive, per Washington general manager Mike Rizzo.
“I shared our sympathies with the Nationals,” Mets manager Luis Rojas said. “It could happen to anybody.”
