MLB Prospects from the Capital Region on the Rise
With Opening Day closing in, there's no better time to educate ourselves on the top prospects across Major League Baseball's 30 organizations. Especially knowing that group includes some former Section 2 stars.
MLB Pipeline recently released its Top 100 Prospects list and is rolling out the top 30 prospects for each individual organization. That has us keeping a close eye on Ian Anderson from Shenendehowa and Kevin Smith from Columbia and that's why we turned to Jim Callis from MLB Pipeline and MLB.com.
Anderson is one of the Braves' top three prospects and he's #37 on the Top 100 Prospects list. Last season, between AA Mississippi and AAA Gwinnett, the hard-throwing righty struck out 172 batters in 135 innings while producing an 8-7 record with a 3.38 ERA.
Smith has had a strong start to his spring in Blue Jays camp with five RBI through five games. The Columbia High School grad got a non-roster invitation after hitting 19 home runs with 61 RBI last year with a full season at AA New Hampshire.
