Baseball cards continue to be the most lucrative in all of sports. Every collector dreams of stacking their deck with the dream hyper-rare card that ends up being worth a fortune. Household names like Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, and Ty Cobb regularly sell in the hundred of thousands - sometimes more.

Yankees legend Mickey Mantle's "rookie" card is currently at auction and will bring in more than $7.4 million. While I doubt this new card that's about to be auctioned off will get into the millions, there's a significant chance it will hit six digits thanks to the player who's on it.

Love him or hate him, he's undoubtedly a true game-changer. He went on to rack up millions of dollars after dropping out of college. They even made a movie about him. If you're trying to guess who it could possibly be, I'll give you some hints lifted directly from the card up for auction and maybe that'll help:

  • Age 8 for the 1992 season
  • Bats and throws right-handed
  • A staggering .920 batting average
  • Favorite player: Roger Clemens
  • Favorite team: The Yankees

Think you know who it is? Okay, let's see if you're right.

From the '92 champion Red Robins, it's White Plains, NY native Mark Zuckerberg. Yup. Facebook Mark.

The seller is Allie Tarantino, who was Zuckerberg's favorite counsellor at Elmwood Day Camp in Westchester. Mark gave it as an end of summer goodbye gift and Tarantino insisted he sign it. Of course, at the time there was no guessing how famous Mark would becoming in developing a site your mom now uses to share Minions memes.

The physical card is to be auctioned off at a later date, yet to be determined. Because it's 2022, Tarantino is also auctioning a 1 of 1 NFT, or Non-Fungible Token, made of the card for all the digital collectors on blockchain.

Mark Zuckerberg himself knows the card is out there, and it seems to be selling with his blessing (and an ad his new NFT expansions on Instagram).

If Zuckerberg had gone pro, and with that .920 that's not entirely out of the question, you know who I think he'd play for? The (Sweet Baby) Rays.
