After Joseph Girard III broke the New York state scoring record Tuesday night, I started lobbying on his behalf for a day off from school. It fell on mainly deaf ears, but we did pull the Glens Falls junior out of class for a segment on Big Board Sports.

On second thought, skipping school wouldn't be the right move. This is a day to be seen and heard if you're the all-time leading scorer in the state in boys basketball. Girard passed Lance Stephenson with 44 points in a win over Amsterdam and he now stands at 2,952 for his career.
