There are only 32 National Football League franchises. Some people commit a large portion of their lives being a fan of those franchises. Others commit their lives to really cool things that help other people and they happen to be big football fans with a favorite team. Yesterday, the Buffalo Bills announced that Albian, New Yorker, Geno Allport has been selected as the Bills 2021 Fan of the Year.

When you are picked as the 'Fan of the Year' by a Major League, (Big 4,NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) franchise, you are in some truly elite company. I was so impressed when WGNA's Chrissy Cavotta was chosen by the NFL to be in a fan commercial. To me, that was amazing! This looks like terrific recognition for an awesome person that is a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan.

According to Dante Lasting of BuffaloBills.com, "Allport currently is a Preceptor and Alumni Coordinator at Vertus Charter School in Rochester, NY, where he helped start the school's first ever football program. He also recently became the commissioner of the Albion Youth Sports Athletic Program. Allport has spent the past 20 years with AYSAP, performing many roles such as equipment manager, fundraising coordinator, statistician, water boy, set-up and clean-up crew, coach at all games, and fan/player safety coordinator."

Lasting continued, "Allport's Bills fandom is all thanks to his late father who had been a season ticket member since 1974. Allport and his siblings gifted their father a brick located outside of the Bills Store with his name and hometown on it. They presented the brick at last game his father attended on 11/28/99 before his untimely death in March of 2000. They've attended almost every home game since, a new family tradition. A tradition that Allport now passed onto his four children. Allport's son Tre, who nominated him."

I thought the coolest thing was how the Bills told Geno. According to the article the, "Bills surprised Allport Thursday night at his team's football practice in Albion, NY. With around 65 kids aged 6-12 attending the practice, Allport got to hear the good news and celebrate with his family, friends and players." That is truly awesome. Congratulations to Geno Allport and his entire Buffalo Bills family.
