New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes won't exactly go down in football lore for his ridiculous actions on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Santonio Holmes made a 4-yard reception to begin the 4th quarter against the 49ers at Metlife Stadium.  Holmes injured his left foot on the play and simply gave up the football.  San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers picked up the ball at raced 51 yards for an easy touchdown.  The touchdown by Rogers gave the 49ers a 24-0 lead en route to a 34-0 win.

Sure, Holmes is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday.  No, we don't know the extent of Holmes' injury, but there is still no excuse for giving up the football before being touched down in this situation.  X-rays of Holmes' injured foot came back negative.  You can't talk as much trash as the Jets do and simply punk out on a play like this.  Suck it up and hold onto the football.

Next week doesn't get any easier for Gang Green.  The Jets (2-2) host the undefeated Houston Texans (4-0) on Monday Night Football.  Pregame coverage will begin at 7:30pm ET on 104.5 The Team, ESPN Radio.
