Nine Capital Region teams arrived in New York state's high school basketball regional round on Saturday and six survived. Of the five boys teams from Section 2, four of them advanced and the Cambridge and Bishop Gibbons girls teams now stand only two wins away from being crowned state champs.

On the verge of a clean, Section 2 sweep in the regionals, the Saratoga Springs boys couldn't hold onto a two possession lead late in the game before losing in overtime. That was the only setback suffered by Section 2 as Troy, Glens Falls, Lake George and OESJ are all Binghamton-bound.

Here are the quick hits: Troy's high-scoring postseason continues. The Flying Horses have scored 94 and 78 points in their two state tournament wins. Glens Falls' star Joseph Girard III was held to only five points in the first quarter of Saturday's regional win. The state's all-time leading scorer poured in 40 points in the following three quarters. Lake George's absurd winning streak is now at 54 games and OESJ last won a sectional title in 2007 and now the Wolfpack is two wins from a state title.

On the girls' side, Cambridge and Bishop Gibbons both won comfortably. The latter continues its historic season which includes the Golden Knights' first sectional championship in thirty years.
