Syracuse is No Question a Tournament Team
Syracuse looks like an NCAA tournament team, after almost knocking off 16th ranked Virginia in the ACC quarterfinals on Wednesday. It’s not been a great year by any stretch, but they have played well down the stretch winning 3 of their last 4 and 6 of their last 9 games. Virginia beat SU by 23 points earlier in the season, but needed a three at the buzzer to advance past the Orange in ACC tournament. The way Buddy Boeheim can shoot the ball makes them a dangerous team, and when they decide to defend and guard the perimeter in the 2-3 zone, they can be tough to beat.
Matthew Gutierrez joined the program to discuss the latest with Syracuse, the Covid situation surrounding them and Virginia and he weighs in on Coach Boeheim's comments about why Syracuse should be in the tournament. Here are some of the highlights of the interview above:
- Syracuse most likely will be one of the last 4 in and the biggest issue is the 1-7 record against the Quad 1 teams which is not impressive and does not differentiate them at all.
- They have played well down the stretch beating some good teams and taking Virginia down to the wire.
- They have some bad losses, like Pittsburgh twice, which could make this thing pretty darn close and makes it more complicated when compared to Boeheim's rant but his point stands that they look like a tournament team.
- There a few more games that could steal that seed away from the Orange so we will be watching this weekend but overall the Bubble is weak.
