The 'Hey it's the Big Store Taft!' jingle will be retiring. The two locations of the locally owned and family operated Taft furniture stores have been sold to Raymour & Flanigan.

Taft has been owned by the Mulcahy family for five decades. It opened its flagship store on Central Avenue in the early 70's. They expanded into Saratoga with their second store on Route 50 back in 2006. In a statement, the family says selling to Raymour & Flanigan was an easy choice.

As we transition our business to Raymour & Flanigan, we thank our loyal customers for shopping with us, and know that they are in great hands going forward.

Raymour & Flanigan currently operates three stores in the Capital Region with locations in Latham, Niskayuna and Clifton Park. The two Taft Furniture locations have already been rebranded, with the Central Avenue location acting as both a warehouse and distribution center called Raymour & Flanigan Outlet. The Saratoga property is now a Raymour & Flanigan showroom.

Although a large chain, Raymour & Flanigan is also a family owned business based out of the Syracuse area. Across the northeast they have approximately 140 stores.

Raymour & Flanigan says they intend to keep most of the employees who were previously employed by Taft.

The website www.taftfurniture.com already redirects to Raymour & Flanigan's website, where they have posted a number of FAQ's about the transition.

Just so we never forget that jingle, let's take a look back at this commercial from 2010.
