Nine years after the shootout became a regular addition of the NHL landscape, the hockey world has become divided on whether or not the league should continue to employ the tiebreaker.  Die-hards say shootouts are gimmicky, and games shouldn't be decided by a skills competition, while others stump for the drama-factor they provide, and maintain that anything is better than a tie.

After dropping a 2-1 game in Springfield in a shootout the Albany Devils took their act into Atlantic City and promptly lost again in a shootout, this time to their rivals, the Adirondack Phantoms, 3-2. Over 5,000 people packed the Boardwalk hall to watch their Phantoms reduce the lead in the Time Warner Cable Cup series to 4-2 in favor of Albany...

Eric Gelinas scored a first period tally for the Albany Devils Saturday night. However, that's all the Devils scored in losing to the Springfield Falcons Saturday night on the road, 2-1. Springfield scored the first goal of the game, then was kept at bay the rest of the contest until the shootout, that is, when the Falcons outscored the Devils 2-1 to get the win and the two points in the standings

The New York Rangers won their fifth straight game thanks to a big shootout goal by Marian Gaborik to keep them alive and the winning goal by Derek Stepon.  They beat the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1.
