One of my favorite trends in sports media over the last decade or so has been the evolution of the "day in the life" videos. Teams and players taking fans behind the scenes of a day as an athlete, showing us never-before-seen details of their lives, and making us feel closer to the action than ever before.

Through the fine folks at Everything College Hockey, we were able to take a look inside the walls of the Achilles Center, and followed the team as they went through a day in the life as a Union College hockey player.

From the first bell of classes (maybe not the most appropriate college reference) to the last bit of homework, they covered the complete day of a Dutchmen men's hockey player.

As someone who has been around college athletes for a number of years, I am always impressed by athletes who make a point of making time for their studies every single day. I did not play a Division 1 sport, and still barely managed to give school work the proper credence each day. Spending multiple hours at a rink, both practicing and working out, is a huge time commitment, and to spend that free time studying always impresses me.

Speaking of impress, the facilities that the Achilles Center, and Union College, both boast are also very refined and put together. The library looked immaculate, the cafeteria stocked with options, and man, oh man, how about the Messa Rink. The classic feel of an old-school hockey barn is one that every sports fan, hockey fanatic or not, needs to experience. The steel beam and wooden plank design of the roof is a classic if I've ever seen one, and each rink I've been to that sports that type of design feels a little bit more inviting, but also, can be even more of a nightmare for the opposing goaltender.

It's an exciting weekend at Union College as well, as the puck is about to drop against the local rivals from RPI in Troy. It's Homecoming Weekend for the Dutchmen as well, as the football team faces Hobart at home on Saturday afternoon.

If you need me, however, I'll just be watching that Tik Tok on loop, more and more jealous each time around.
