Wow. Well, they say bears learn by habit and acquire skills. As they come out of hibernation this spring, they'll likely be showing up in more residential areas.

Here we see a black bear walking right up to the font door of this particular home. Even using the railing as he goes up the steps. When he gets to the door, he plays with the handle for a moment, then uses his mouth to open the screen door.

Luckily for the homeowner, he was only able to open the screen door and gave up after that.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation posted the video on its Facebook page Tuesday. They didn't say the exact town it happened in, but said upstate residents should take precautions so as to not attract bears to their homes:

Spring is upon us, which means some areas of New York State will begin to see hungry bears emerging from dens in coming weeks. DEC would like to remind you to limit food sources such as bird feeders, pet food, and open trash containers to reduce bear conflicts with humans.

The home's security camera caught the encounter on video:

The DEC reminds New Yorkers to remove bird feeders from their yards during the spring and summer months. They also recommend putting your trash out shortly before pick up times. Again, bears learn by habit and will return if they know there is a food source in a certain area.

For more on how to reduce bear/human interactions, the DEC has a list of steps you can take available on their website.
