Week 5 Edition of ‘Locks of the Week’ Returns After a Profitable Week, Plus Bonus Player Props
We’re (somewhat) back on track after our first positive article of the season in week 4. We took one of our worst beats of the season this past Thursday, with Tampa Bay. We’ll look to make up for it with our final four picks of the week.
Season Record: 8-12-1, 40 W/L%
Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears, 1:00, FOX
The Panthers have looked like an entirely different offense, since Andy Dalton has taken over as the signal caller. They’ve put up 36, and 24 points respectively over the past two weeks and gotten feature guys like Chubba Hubbard, and Diontae Johnson going. Over the past two weeks, it seems like rookie QB Caleb Williams has been settling down, also gaining a semblance of a run game last week was certainly a help. Chicago has had one of the more impressive defensive units this season, allowing just 18.8 points per game. Give me Chicago by a touchdown here at home.
Pick: Bears -4
Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars, 1:00, CBS
The Jags currently remain the only winless team in all of football. They’ve looked lackluster on offense virtually all season, but now get a matchup with a Colts secondary that’s been struggling to stop anything all season. The Colts will also be without Anthony Richardson (Doubtful as of this writing), and it’ll be Joe Flacco for Indy. I’ll trust the reeling Jags to finally get one here with an easier matchup for Trevor Lawrence, and this offense.
PICK: Jaguars -3.5
Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams, 4:25, CBS
Funny enough, the Packers have lost two games with Jordan Love starting, and won their two with Malik Willis in the lineup. The Rams haven’t been able to do much on offense apart from week 3 against the Niners. They’ll still be missing wide receivers Puka Nucua, and Cooper Kupp, as well as multiple starters on the offensive line. The Rams have allowed the second most yards per game on defense this year, and I expect Love to get off to a hot start in LA, which will likely be dominated by Packers fans.
Pick: Packers -3 (Pick made with Thursday lines)
New Orleans Saints @ Kansas City Chiefs, 8:15 (MNF), ESPN
The Chiefs remind me more and more of the Patriots dynasty every week they play. Great defense, great coaching, and somehow winning every single close game they play. The Chiefs, despite being winners of six straight regular season games, haven’t won a single one of them by more than a score. The Saints have still shown amazing progress as an offense this season, despite a huge Week 3 letdown against Philly. Take the Saints to keep this close on the road against the Chiefs.
Pick: Saints +5.5 (Pick made with Thursday lines)
